Tapping into Altruism

Women are very clear about the reasons they go to work and most say it’s not just about the money. The data presented in chapters 2 and 3 demonstrates that the aspirations of talented women are multidimensional. Compensation is certainly important to women, but it’s not nearly as powerful a motivator as it is for men. While men list money as either the first or second priority on their wish list, women tend to rank this goal much further down on their list of career drivers. For example, among women with extreme jobs, only 28 percent say money is a prime motivator, while among men, this figure rises to 43 percent.
