In this chapter, we explore the most underutilized resource in current wireless LAN systems, antenna diversity. Recent information theoretic results suggest that there is tremendous capacity potential for wireless communication systems using antenna diversity. Diversity is defined as multiple independent channels between transmitters and receivers; hence, antenna diversity or polarization discrimination occurs when the independent paths are spatial in nature.
