Troubleshooting Boot Problems

The artifacts used in each boot phase, when misconfigured or corrupted, will certainly gum up the works. Solving all of the problems we can identify here falls outside the scope of the OCA exam. That said, solving these issues is the easy part. It’s not quick if you don’t know how to fix what’s broken, but once you’re certain where the trouble lies, you do know what you need to know to take the next step.

Isolating your problem is always the first step. That’s very hard if you don’t know how the system is organized, what sequence of actions you rely on for the system to boot correctly, or where key files happen to be. For the boot model, the list of concerns we can specify include:
