Performing RMAN hot backups

As we mentioned, the command-line syntax of RMAN is very similar, regardless of the type of backup being performed. Unlike user-managed backups, performing hot backups while the database is online is almost identical in process to offline backups. The main difference is the state of the database: hot backups run while the database is up and available.

Performing full hot backups

To begin with our hot backup, we should first bring it online. We can also do this from the RMAN command line. We must also remember that to run a hot backup, we must be in ARCHIVELOG mode. Our database is currently in a mount state, so we need to open it first.
