Introducing the Data Recovery Advisor

Recovery from media failures can be a tricky process; it requires a thorough knowledge of the topics we cover in the next two chapters, as well as a good deal of practice. In order to simplify the process of recovery, Oracle introduced the Data Recovery Advisor , (DRA). The DRA is a facility to diagnose problems related to database recovery and advise the DBA on the necessary steps to solve them. It is specific to situations where a backup can be used to recover a database; thus it cannot assist a DBA with user failures or when no backup exists.
