Summary

In this chapter, we've examined the network architecture portion of the Oracle database. We've looked at the concepts behind Oracle Net, including the dedicated and shared server architectures and the listener. We've learned to manage the listener using the lsnrctl command-line utility. We've looked at the three major network configuration files for Oracle Net—listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora. We've examined the concepts of database registration and name resolution. Finally, we've explored connecting to remote databases using database links. In our next chapter, we will learn about some of the newer features that Oracle provides to perform day-to-day administration.
