Understanding database registration

In our section on the listener.ora configuration file, we noted that the database SID was the only one of the four pieces of information needed to establish a connection that was missing. Prior to the latest versions of Oracle, it was necessary to explicitly declare, or register, the database name in the listener. In more recent versions, Oracle allows this process of registration to occur dynamically. In this section, we'll look at both types of database registration.

Using static registration
