sans serif

A category of type that does not have serifs. The bold type in these definitions is a sans serif font.

scalable font

A font that can be resized to any point size without becoming distorted, either on the screen or the printed page.

screen font

The bitmapped part of some fonts used to display the type on the screen. Also known as a bitmapped font. It is one component of a PostScript Type 1 font.

script

Typefaces that emulate handwriting.

serif

A very short line that extends from upper and lower ends of main strokes. There are many variations—cupped, rounded, square, slab, bracketed etc.
