recto

The right-hand page in a book, always odd-numbered.

resolution

How clearly “resolved” an image or typeface looks on the screen (measured in ppi) or when printed (measured in dpi).

reverse

The opposite of the standard of black text on a white background—white text on a black (or dark) background. As opposed to drop out.

river

Poor wordspacing in justified copy creates a “river” of white space that flows vertically through the text.

roman

Any typeface, serif or sans serif, that does not slant. This font is roman.
