- cap height
The height of the capital letters within a typeface. The cap height may be greater than or less than ascender height.
- capitals
The uppercase letters of the alphabet, affectionately called “caps.”
- caption
Text accompanying a photo or illustration.
- center alignment/centered
The text on each line is centered within the line length.
- character
One single letter, number, punctuation mark, etc.
- character set
The entire set of all the letters, numbers, symbols, punctuation, dingbats, etc., within a font.
- characters per pica (cpp)
A measurement of how many characters in a particular face and size could fit in a pica. Before desktop publishing, knowing the cpp of a font was necessary for calculating the fit of type.
