Letterspacing Chart for InDesign
KERNING applies when the insertion point is flashing between two characters. The kerning value is actually applied to the glyph on the left.
Auto pair-kerns and Metrical kerning: Default
Optical kerning: Use when a font has minimal pair kerns or when mixing typefaces.
Click between two characters after applying Optical kerning to see the exact value in parentheses.
Manual kerning: Insertion point is between two characters.
Add space: Option RightArrow Alt RightArrow Delete space: Option LeftArrow Alt LeftArrow x5 increment: Add the Command key (Mac) or Control key (PC) to the above
TRACKING applies when more than one character is selected.
Tracking: Adds to the manual kerning (if any) and auto pair-kerns.
