Chapter 34. Do More With Less

Achievement of any organizational goal requires resources. A manufacturer requires labor and material to produce a finished product; a non-profit needs contributions and volunteers to provide its services; an army needs troops and weaponry to win battles. Leaders rarely have all the resources they require to achieve their goals. They must learn to do more with less.

In the early stages of both WWII and Korea, MacArthur faced severe shortages of both men and equipment. His creative responses to shortages earned him a well-deserved reputation as a leader who (as D. Clayton James put it) could win with “relatively meager logistical support.”
