The Summer from Hell

JUST HOURS AFTER we stormed out of Dr. Shikari’s office, we sat in the waiting room of my own general practitioner. I chose him primarily because he made same-day appointments, but also because he had never seen my son and didn’t know he had autism.

What brings us in today? Well, the pediatrician was all booked up, you see, and Paul had been complaining about a very bad sore throat. Never mind what language he’d been complaining in.

Did he have a fever? No, because the Tylenol had brought it down, but he’d had one earlier. You know, earlier in his lifetime. But it’s not a valid question, since Paul never gets fevers. ...
