This chapter covers some of the most common types of photography most people are likely to attempt. In the different sections, I offer different tips and techniques that I have learned both in college and in the field. Different photographers often have different techniques that work for them, so you may find that my methods may not be the easiest for you. One of the great things about photography — and digital photography in particular — is that fact that it's very easy to experiment. Use these techniques as building blocks to developing your own style and techniques.

Action and Sports Photography

Action and sports photography is just what it sounds like, although it doesn't necessarily mean your subject is engaging in some type of sport. It can be any activity that involves fast movement, such as your child riding his bike down the street or running across the beach. Shooting any type of action can be tricky to even seasoned pros because you need to be sure to shoot at a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the movement of your subject.
