Global Positioning Systems

Global Positioning Systems (GPS) record their location using satellites. Nikon has a GPS unit that records the location when you take your photos. The GP-1 GPS unit records the latitude, longitude, altitude, and time information. To do this, it needs to acquire a satellite connection. This can take up to 45 seconds when first starting up and 5 seconds once it is up and running. The GPS unit attaches to the camera hot shoe or strap (via the strap adapter) and plugs into the D3200 accessory terminal. The GPS location data can be read by the Nikon ViewNX 2 software, and applications like Adobe Lightroom and iPhoto.
