Imagine you’re out getting the mail, and someone pulls over to ask you for directions. They’re flushed and seem to be in a hurry. How would you respond? You’d probably answer quickly, getting right to the point and skipping any introductions or small talk. That’s because you don’t know where that person is trying to go or why. When you’re giving information in a situation like this, it’s especially important to be calm, clear, and helpful.

You don’t know what’s going on in your readers’ lives. You don’t know their worries and concerns. But you do know the circumstances you’re creating for them, and you can write in a way that makes those moments a little easier.
