Despite its wireless nature, the Nexus 7 came with a USB cable. That cable not only serves to charge the tablet, but it can also be used for good old-fashioned wire-based communications. No, you cannot use the USB cable to connect the Nexus 7 to the couch, or the toaster, or a nuclear weapon. You can, however, use the USB cable to connect the Nexus 7 to a computer. This chapter describes all the wonderful things that can happen after that connection is made.

The USB Connection

The most direct way to connect a Nexus 7 to a computer is by using a wire — specifically, the wire nestled cozily in the heart of a USB cable. You can do lots of things after making the USB connection. It all starts with connecting the cable.
