New supervisors have special needs. They are making a critical transition into management, and this change requires developing a number of competencies quickly. We wrote this book to provide trainers and consultants with a resource that allows them to meet the needs of new supervisors in ways that reflect local organizational reality. Our goal was to provide a workbook that is flexible—that makes it easy for trainers and consultants to assess the learning needs of their prospective participants and adapt training material accordingly.
