Tips on Designing Effective Training for New Supervisors

Developing your plan for facilitating the learning of new supervisors is as much an art as it is a science. Your training designs implicitly express your theory of learning. Here are some things to keep in mind as you prepare your detailed plan:

  • Begin with learning goals. Your needs assessment should have resulted in a clear understanding of what the new supervisors you are training need to learn. Remember the slogan, “More than three goals are no goals,” as you prepare a statement of what you hope to accomplish in your training session.
