Richard Haines uses his illustrations to record what he sees in fashionable men about town: street style. Such observational drawing – taking individuals seen on the streets and adapting these figures for a variety of creative outcomes – has been used in fashion illustration since time immemorial. In contemporary fashion terms, blogs – often relying on a cast of street ‘characters’ for their appeal – and photographic artists like Scott Schuman have developed an eye for fashion as it is worn and turned this into a specialist area.
