The success or failure of a training session often is determined long before the first participant sets foot in the training room. The new employee orientation program is no exception, particularly because the orientation program is a process, not a one-time event.

Orienting the new employee should begin even before that worker’s first day on the job. It’s important for the employee’s supervisor to make a personal telephone contact, welcoming the new person to the organization. Every effort should be made to make him or her feel like a part of the team.
