Blackboard – how resources are integrated within a course management system
The Blackboard course management system is a popular CMS used by academic institutions in North America. Many institutions provide e-reserve via this platform. However, there is no single way of integrating e-reserve within Blackboard. The authors have identified five different approaches: adapting the Library Content feature within Blackboard; utilizing the system’s eReserves module; creating a building block between library resources and the CMS; inserting Course Cartridges into the system; and finally, making use of the building block feature devised by commercial e-reserve software to achieve the integration.
