I LIKE TO TEACH seminars and give talks. I’ve been doing public speaking for many years. One of the interesting things I’ve noticed is the effect on the audience of the words, “Let me tell you a story.” It’s as though I said, “Once upon a time.” Every time I say, “Let me tell you a story,” everyone looks up at me. Their eyes get big, their eyebrows go up, and I have their total attention.

When we hear a story, we give the storyteller all of our attention. A good story communicates information thoroughly and commits the information to memory.
