Introduction

A large part of network administration involves having the right tools for the job and knowing when and how to use them. Selecting the correct tool for a networking job sounds like an easy task, but network administrators can choose from a mind-boggling number of tools and utilities.

Given the diverse range of tools and utilities available, it is unlikely that you will encounter all the ones that are available—or even all those that are discussed in this chapter. For the Network+ exam, however, you are required to have a general knowledge of the tools available and what they are designed to do.
