TCP/IP-Based Network Services

  • Identify the purpose of the following network services: DHCP/BOOTP, DNS, NAT/ICS, WINS, and SNMP.

On its own, TCP/IP provides devices with a means to communicate, but combined with other services, such as the following, it can do even more:

  • Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

  • BOOT Protocol (BOOTP)

  • Domain Name System (DNS)

  • Network Address Translation (NAT) and Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)

  • Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)

  • Windows Internet Name Service (WINS)
