Chapter 11. Service Level Management: Knowing What You Pay For

In general, providers and beneficiaries of networking services maintain a business relationship with each other: The network provider provides a product to a customer. In this case, the product happens to be a networking service (or perhaps a data center service—but without loss of generality, we simply refer to networking services here). In return, the customer (who is also the user of the service) is expected to pay the service provider for the networking services provided. This is not unlike other business transactions: Customers pay for a product. In return, they expect to receive the product in good quality and performing to its specifications.
