SNMP and Network Management

Part II, comprising Chapters 39, is devoted to understanding the principles of network and system management. Chapters 37 discuss the management of a TCP/IP network using Simple Network Management System (SNMP) versions 1, 2, and 3. Remote monitoring, which is also part of SNMP management, is discussed in Chapter 8.

In Chapter 3, technical foundations on standards, models, and language, which are needed to build network management based on various standards, are introduced. Network management standards that are currently used are SNMP (Internet), CMIP (OSI), TMN, IEEE, and Web-based Management.
