OSI Network and System Management

In Chapter 3 we introduced OSI management, which uses the Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP). Then we discussed its application to the Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) in Chapter 10. We will cover the basic principles of OSI network and system management here. We will describe the management of network resources, including both network elements and the network that connects them. In conjunction with TMN, OSI also addresses management layers above the network—namely, service and business management. You may need to review the basic foundations of OSI in Chapter 3 to follow the material in this appendix.
