Chapter 11. CONNECTING YOUR COMPUTER TO A NETWORK

Regardless of the operating system that a computer uses, it requires the same configuration settings to connect to a LAN and to the Internet. Each operating system organizes configuration information differently, but they all require the settings described in Chapter 10. This chapter describes the configuration settings for Windows, Macintosh OS X, and for Linux and Unix, and it offers step-by-step instructions for connecting computers running those operating systems to your network.

Before you try to configure the computers in your network, set up the LAN and WAN settings on the network's modem and router; the configuration of your network's computers must be compatible with those settings.
