sFlow

sFlow is a flow export technology invented by InMon that competes with Cisco's NetFlow. Many vendors, such as HP and Extreme, offer equipment that exports sFlow but not NetFlow. No need to despair, though: You can translate sFlow packets into NetFlow version 5 data and feed that to flow-tools.

Note

If you have a lot of sFlow-based equipment, however, you should really look into an sFlow reporting system. I recommend converting sFlow to NetFlow when you have an existing flow-tools setup and a couple of sFlow devices that you'd like to integrate into that system, not when you have a data center full of sFlow hardware.
