Chapter 22. Network Management Introduction
Network management is a service that is needed to control and optimize network operations and respond to changes in user requirements or network conditions. With the implementation of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), local-area network (LAN) and wide-area network (WAN) components can be monitored and “managed,” typically from a central facility. Network management is an integrated platform, or suite, of functions that can be on one machine but span thousands of miles, different support organizations, and many machines and databases.
