2.1. The .NET SDK

The .NET SDK is the equivalent of Java's JDK, which is available from the JavaSoft Web site (http://www.javasoft.com). The .NET SDK is available for download from the Web or can be obtained in CD format (see http://www.microsoft.com). The .NET SDK comes with a compiler, the runtime engine, and a slew of other tools for programming in C#. These tools are all you need to write a C# program. The .NET SDK is currently available for use only on the following Windows platforms: Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 98, and Windows NT.
