To choose the best data collection methods for your needs, you must

  • know which data you need and how essential it is

  • analyze the potential methods for feasibility

  • assess your own skill at implementing each method

  • understand what parts of your ultimate training design will require data to complete.

To assess your own level of skill in regard to applying some of the data collection techniques discussed, go back to table 5-2 and fill in your self-ratings in the column marked “Needs Assessor’s Skill Level.” Now you can use the complete matrix to assist with making data collection method decisions in your own practice.
