Chapter 3. WORKING WITH NATURAL LIGHT

Properties of Light

Natural Light Photography

Digital Exposure

Light is fundamental to photography. In fact, the word photography is made of two Greek words essentially meaning "writing with light." To make good nature photographs, you should know about the properties of light, learn to read the light on a scene, and anticipate what the light might do next. Most importantly, you need to know when the current lighting conditions are not ideal for the subject matter. This chapter introduces the characteristics of light and explains how you can use this knowledge to your advantage when you're out shooting.
