Nanopolymers*

Abstract

There are many different applications for polymeric nanofibers, and most of these applications are still in their infancy stage with vast range of potential developments. Polymeric nanofibers can mainly be fabricated by several methods that include electrospinning and some other techniques such as drawing, template synthesis, phase separation, and self-assembly. Environmental applications of polymer nanofibers include membranes for fuel cells (e.g., direct methanol fuel cell), heavy ion removal in industrial wastewater (e.g., chemical precipitation, electrolytic recovery, adsorption/ion-exchange, and solvent extraction/liquid membrane separation), and solar energy (e.g., photovoltaic cells).
