Eddy Kinematic Viscosity

In turbulent flow applications, the effective viscosity is increased because of increased shear stresses (internal friction) due to the increased momentum transfer caused by eddies. The eddy viscosity is a function of the flow, not of the fluid, and increases with increasing turbulence. In turbulent flow applications, the kinematic viscosity is usually simply replaced by the eddy kinematic viscosity because the eddy viscosity is typically of the order of one hundred thousand times the kinematic viscosity. A measure or estimate of particle size based on the properties or behavior of the particles in a particular system.

Effective Porosity

Effective Viscosity

For foams or emulsions flowing in porous media, the foam's effective viscosity is that calculated from Darcy's law. This calculation is an approximation because foams are compressible, and foams and emulsions are usually non-Newtonian.
