H.4 Rapidly Changing States

Nagios 3.0 now records the state history even when flap detection is switched off. If you switch this on globally, with enable_flap_detection (see A.1 The Main Configuration File nagios.cfg), Nagios will test all hosts and services immediately for flapping.

For globally switched off flap detection, Nagios logs flapping states to the log file and sends messages of the notification type FLAPPINGDISABLED, if you have specified f (flapping) in the notification_options in the host or service definition.

Whereas Nagios 2.x still recorded every change in state, in Nagios 3.0 the parameter flap_detection_options (see H.1.1 The host object, page 679) allows this to be restricted to certain states. Only the states specified are ...
