Importing and exporting data

In the previous section, we have actually imported the sakila database by using SQL dump files. In this section, we'll cover import/export capabilities of Navicat in more detail.

As our first exercise, we will export our_first_db, the database that we created in Chapter 2, Working with Databases, in a .sql file, so that it can be regenerated on another MySQL server or as another instance of the database on the same server. To export our_first_db, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on our_first_db and choose Dump SQL file... from the pop-up menu. (If that menu item is dimmed and therefore inactive, you can first select Open Database from the same pop-up menu and then proceed with the intended step by right-clicking on it ...
