Creating a database from scratch

Navicat makes it extremely easy to create databases and objects, such as tables and views from scratch. As we have established a connection to a MySQL server in the previous chapter, it’s time to get started with a blank database of our own. The following steps describe how to create a database from scratch:

  1. Double-click on localhost (or whatever you named your server) in the Connections pane to get connected.
  2. Then right-click on the server name, and select New Database... from the contextual menu that pops up.
  3. In the new smaller window that opens, enter the Database Name as our_first_db, specify the Character set as utf8--UTF-8 Unicode, and the Collation as utf8_unicode_ci.
  4. Finally click on OK.

Now our_first_db should ...
