Chapter 11. Command-Line Utilities

This chapter describes the utilities that you can use to administer the MySQL server and data. Some interact with the server and others manipulate the datafiles directly for MySQL. Others can be used to make backups of data (e.g., mysqldump and mysqlhotcopy). These utilities are listed here in alphabetical order, with descriptions.

Some of these utilities are provided with MySQL and are typically installed in a standard directory for executables so that they are automatically on the user’s command path. Other utilities have to be downloaded and installed from MySQL AB’s site or from a third-party site.
