If we developed a caricature of a micromanager, it would be the neck of a bottle with a face on it. Bottlenecks are created by micromanagers. They become a funnel with everything moving through them.

Picture a highway system with eight or ten lanes suddenly narrowing into only one lane for a toll booth. All lanes feed into one lane where vehicles stop for a transaction to occur. Forward progress is halted and then begins again slowly as vehicles pass through the toll booth. It takes a while to regain speed and momentum. Micromanagers are that toll booth. The transaction is their required approval.
