Identifying the Types of CD and DVD Discs Your Mac Can Use

Look in any computer or office supply store and you'll find a bewildering array of CD and DVD discs. Some cost more than others, but all have some designation on the package, such as CD-R or DVD+RW. Before you buy a stack of CD or DVD discs, you need to make sure your Macintosh can use them. Table 49-1 lists the different types of CD and DVD discs you'll likely find.

Note

If you want to create an audio CD or video DVD on your Macintosh, make sure the discs you use can also be played in other types of disc players, such as your car stereo's CD player. In general, most audio CD players can recognize CD-R discs, and most DVD players can recognize DVD-R and DVD+R discs.
