Chapter 12. ADVENTURES AROUND THE WORLD

The Navy had a slogan, "Join the Navy and see the world!" I never joined the Navy, but the Girl Scouts did provide my first opportunity to see the world. As I have recounted, my first trip abroad was to Greece in the 1960s when I was serving in a volunteer role on the national board of directors (long before I ever became the CEO); I was one of six representatives of GSUSA at the triennial World Conference of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.

While on the national board I also had the opportunity to serve as one of two American women on the Our Chalet committee of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, meeting every February and September in Adelboden, Switzerland. Our Chalet was an inspiring world ...
