In today’s world, information is a powerful resource that is becoming increasingly important and uncontrollably abundant. Its exponential growth means that half the information that is currently available has been gathered in the last fifty years. But it is not only the amount and massive stockpiling of data that keeps our society in constant evolution, rather it is the rational, orderly, productive and intelligent use of information that constitutes the primordial factor driving development. Organisations, enterprises, social groups and, in a word, individuals need to develop the competence to transform all that mass of information into intelligent knowledge and productive know-how.
