RSVP

You need a signaling protocol for TE tunnels to ensure that link admissions happen at the interfaces of the LSRs that the TE tunnel crosses and for propagation of a label hop by hop that the traffic flowing on the TE tunnel can use. RSVP was enhanced so that it could signal TE tunnels, because RSVP was originally designed for signaling Integrated Services (IntServ). In other words, RSVP signaled quality of service (QoS) throughout the network. This protocol has seen few deployments to provide IntServ because the Differentiated Services (DiffServ) model provides the QoS these days as a result of severe scalability constraints of the IntServ model in large networks.
