Chapter 7. MPLS Security

This chapter commences with an overview of security and its role within a next-generation network (NGN) framework. The discussion progresses to an overview of MPLS security in terms of the following three security attributes: the relevant architecture, the technology implementation, and operating the technology. Breaking any of these security attributes exposes the customer to a corresponding security attack.

The chapter concludes with MPLS security best practice guidelines that identify attack vectors and recommended responses to these attack vectors. Security must be integral in an overall operations, management, and administration (OAM) policy, which is further discussed in Chapter 12, “Network Management and Provisioning.” ...
