16.8. Summary

Verification tests are part of the standards development approach adopted by MPEG. These tests are aimed at verifying that the tools developed can be used to assemble the target systems and to provide the desired functionalities with an adequate level of performance.

In the case of the MPEG-4 Audio standard, two rounds of verification tests were performed: one for Version 1 and another for Version 2.

For Version 1, the following target applications were considered: narrowband audio broadcasting, audio on the Internet, and speech communications.
