16.6. Version 2 Coding Efficiency Test

MPEG-4 Audio Version 1 includes a considerable number of tools for representing audiovisual information, either in natural or in synthetic form, supporting most of the functionalities described in the initial MPEG-4 Proposal Package Description [N998] and in the MPEG-4 Requirements document [N4319] (see Chapter 1). Nevertheless, MPEG experts felt that MPEG-4 could be further improved by including new technologies and additional functionalities. This fact motivated the decision to work for MPEG-4 Audio Version 2, developing new tools with the constraint that they would be complementary and not a substitution for the tools already included in the MPEG-4 Audio Version 1.
