Chapter 13. Layers

You may be familiar with using layers in PageMaker, QuarkXPress 5 or 6, Illustrator, Freehand, or Photoshop. Artwork can be placed on different layers, and the layers can be shown or hidden, locked or unlocked, rearranged in the stacking order, and so on. Layers are particularly useful when creating multiple versions of a layout, or when you want to isolate elements like graphics and text in a complex layout.

It’s important to realize that InDesign’s layers are document-wide, so changing a layer applies to all the pages in your document.
