Exploring Must-Have Apps

If you spend much time in the Market perusing the available apps, you'll start to see that some apps are almost always listed in the Featured Tablet Apps, Top Free Apps, and Best Selling Apps sections. You can be sure that lots of people like these apps if they are there most of the time. Some of the apps you see often that aren't already on your Xoom include the following:

  • Google Body—A detailed 3D model of the human body, with access to the anatomical layers. You can zoom in, navigate to specific body parts, or search for muscles, organs, bones, and more.
  • Angry Birds—A game where the angry birds “dish out revenge on the greedy pigs who stole their eggs.” You participate by catapulting things at those greedy pigs.
  • CNN App for Android—A news app that offers news and insights; live, breaking news video; and the ability to submit your own story with iReport.

Of course, I have some favorite apps, too, including Skype (for video calling over 3G and Wi-Fi), Foursquare (for keeping up with friends by checking in at places I visit), Facebook for Android, Google Earth, Google Sky Map, Audible (for listening to Audible audio books), and Barcode Scanner (for taking pictures of barcodes and obtaining information about the products, including prices and reviews). If you're interested in these apps, simply search for them in the Market.

To end this section on apps, I encourage you to visit the Market once a week, at least for a while, and browse the Top Free Apps. ...
